Coming soon to a Gringa near you: Chikungunya!

Lest you forget that we do live in the tropics, let me give you the mosquito bite count from a 2 hour capoeira practice on Saturday.  Inside…with windows open.

Right leg:  99 bites.  Left leg:  126 bites.  At least, that’s where I stopped counting.

I found it interesting that they seemed to gravitate towards only a few of us and left the others completely alone.  Obviously, they took a liking to me.  They also devoured the new girl to our group, a Finnish girl named Emma who has a similar complexion to mine.  Mahalia, who is a Panamanian dark skinned black woman, was also a favorite.  They didn’t seem to care at all about Lourdes or Mono, both brown skinned Panamanians, or about Kike (again, it’s pronounced Key-kay in Spanish, folks), a light brown skinned Venezolano.  No idea what the deal is there.

Mono was so sweet.  While we did our sit-ups, he used a tumbling mattress to fan us all, providing temporary relief from both the suffocating heat and the mosquitos.  Then again, maybe he just didn’t want to do sit-ups.  🙂

Not-at-all-humble brag…on Eric

Eric made a brilliant return to frisbee practice last night after missing out for a few weeks due to visitors and work trips.  As he was leaving the field at the end of practice, the coach yelled out to him (in Spanish) “Great practice, Eric!” and the whole team clapped for him!  WOOHOO!  So proud!

In other news, Addie did a really good job sleeping under the table today.

Apologies

My apologies to my husband for the very very large photo of him in the last post.  I resized it twice, but wordpress did not care.  It wanted everyone to have a screen full of Eric’s forehead, and there wasn’t anything I could do about it.  My apologies also for the other large images in my posts.  It seems that my choices are huge and tiny.  Maybe one day I’ll learn how to use the internets.  I appreciate your patience with me…even if Mom is the only one still reading.  Thanks, Mom.
